Maybe not this one. We did not need to provide a credit card for security deposit, yet when we walked in to actually take our stuff up, the gentlemen at the desk (who did not speak English as his first language) had to provide 2? With his employer provided clothing still on his body?
There were multiple tornado warnings during (and before) our stay. When the sirens went off, we both went to the main floor for safety but to also find out their procedure during warnings as no one gave us that info up front. (We are from central/southern IL, tornados aren’t new to us, so we didn’t think to ask details up front…. Main floor is gonna be the answer to start). When we arrived to the lobby, we were informed by the front desk lady that we were not allowed to leave…. I mean, you can SUGGEST that we don’t but……
Then a few minutes later a gentleman began to go upstairs (after the TV in the lobby with live weather on clarified multiple times that where we were was in the all clear) she informed him he was to remain on the main floor and if the sirens activated again we would all the go to the “break room” for safety due to it not having any windows. Cool cool. Except the massive industrial laundry machines are stacked into a drywall wall. No thank you, the bathroom five feet away with no windows and no heavy machinery will do first thanks. Or even the hallway without giant machines? Way too many much safer options than that one.
Then after a bit, the same front desk lady who spoke slow as all get out to every white person there, spoke very quick, very fluent Spanish to her staff. Seemed extra off to us, after all these weird things. Especially when we then realized that not a single staff member had spoken English to us during our two and a half day stay except the white people up front.
Yall take that what you will, but we ain’t even going back.
As far as the building, bed was super firm but hey I ain’t complaining. I slept okay still. AC worked. Tv worked mostly-cable or internet issues off an on, however also super stormy around us during our stay. However, the instructions left for connecting the TV to cable, or your device to Wi-Fi were both incorrect and we had to fend for ourselves. The shower got hot and there is a way to take a BATH, the plug is still there! However the “heat lamp” function in the bathrooms didn’t do anything but keep the chill off overnight. The toilet paper holder is on the opposite wall of the toilet, not usually an issue. Except here, if you have any stability issues or trouble being able to bend in a seated position and reach outward — not this one. I’m fully able bodied when it coming to that aspect, and still almost fell off the damn toilet trying to reach it. Hairdryer (sort of), kinda works? Building super outdated but seemed fairly clean still. Only provide bar soap and conditioning shampoo. Breakfast was bare minimum but is technically provided. Saw yogurt, some fresh fruit to be eaten now, cereal (stale), juice, milk (dairy only), and a community bag of bread to be shared. There was a toaster and microwave there, as well as a coffee cart in the lobby 24 hrs. The minifridge in our level 2 room did have the small freezer up top that was functioning. Not really around anything except the circle K when you head down the dead end road. Which really is a downer when you know Champaign county has mass transit and you still can’t utilize there. Also — hotel so this happens — but the upstairs room either was heavy footed or something. Human kept waking me from a dead sleep walking across the room. And I’m a heavy sleeper!
