Itaka charges too much for things you can book on your own. On top of that, there’s zero customer support. Sansi Kendwa Beach is nowhere near a 4-star standard. The private beach is very small and cluttered with local boats, and it reeks of diesel. In fact, the beach belongs to them. The hotel doesn’t have a generator, and it turns out (! ) there are power problems on the island. This means the air conditioning doesn’t work and there’s no water. Without a generator, the refrigerators don’t work either, so the quality of the food is highly questionable (bring plenty of medicine! ) and it’s very monotonous. The staff is way too clingy—unless, of course, you’re the type who likes to hug them several times a day. When the tide goes out to 100 meters, it reveals a lot of trash underfoot; you couldn’t call the beach clean even by a stretch of the imagination.
