We stayed in Summer Villa in October. It is an excellent Guest House with wonderful family-like atmosphere. The Guesthouse is kept by a Maldivian family. So all the relatives are really interested in each guest and make everything possible to make the guests happy all the time. The rooms are kept clean the bedsheets and pillowcases are changed regularly. The rooms are equipped with powerful ACs and fans, some of them have fridges, minibars, safe boxes (wooden). The showers have water heaters. So there is hot water in the hotel. They provide guests with soap and shampoo. The guesthouse is located at distance of 30 min by speedboat from Male’ or by 1.5 hours by local ferry. The ferry goes (30 MVR/person/one way trip) daily at 7-30 am (Maafushi–>Male’) and at 2-30 pm (Male’–>Maafushi) except Fridays.
Maafushi is really nice for those who want to immerse in the atmosphere of the local life. And we sincerely liked it. The island is absolutely safe for walking even in night time. The Maafushians are very friendly people ever ready to help without any sign of self-interest. So you will be able to by gifts times cheaper than they sell for the resort tourists. Local shops (except souvenirs) have fixed prices and you can by fruits, snacks and even swimming fins there for the real (not resort) price. The owner, Naseem provides really wonderful excursions to manta spot, Sand Bank, Byadhoo Resort Island, Park Island, Dolphin Watching and fishing. The snorkeling areas chosen for the excursions are brilliant. We saw Manta Rays, Lobsters, Octopus, Turtles, Eagle Rays, Sting Rays and billions of fishes and also Corals, Sea Stars, Sea Cucumbers etc. The price for the excursions depends upon the amount of guests ready to go by the same boat. It is really nice to feel that the owner has real interest in each guest and is not obsessed with getting profit. He can make very many pleasant things for a guest and not charge anything afterwards.
The hotel is really the best place to eat on Maafushi Island. Some tourists staying in White Shell Guest house came and ate with us in Summer Villa.
We left peaces of our hearts on this island and in this wonderful Guesthouse. There was only one unfavorable thing connected with our vocation. After we have come back we miss Naseem and his family and other guests we made friends with. We hope to return in this guesthouse one day.
