We arrived and they barely explained anything to us. Our room didn't have towels or soap. We had to ask for them, but many times the reception was EMPTY, making it difficult to ask anyone for help.
The room they gave us was TINY. Nothing like the one shown in the photos in terms of size and cleanliness. With the bed removed, there was probably only 50 cm of space on each side and less than a meter at the foot of the bed. There wasn't even a wardrobe or anything resembling one. The only things we had to hang clothes on were a tiny wooden board, the floor, and two hangers that could only be hung on the TV stand (which didn't work).
The air conditioning unit was at bed height, and since the room was so small, it blew directly on you, making the chances of catching a cold high.
Our room was by far the worst. It was right by the stairs, so everyone was passing through. From day one, we asked for a change of room, and they kept saying they'd probably be able to do it the next day, but they never did. And it's not like we chose a cheap option. We chose the only option available for 350 reais a night.
Seeing that on day one, when we arrived, people were drying their clothes on the first-floor railings, so we did the same. One day, the cleaning lady and the manager told us we couldn't because it "looked bad" to have underwear in plain sight. After that, to avoid any issues, we hung our underwear in the bathroom and only left t-shirts or swim trunks on the railing. Then one day, after being at the beach since morning, we saw that the towels we'd left for them to change had been placed, still damp, on top of our underwear. So, wet towels and wet underwear. Luckily, we found the receptionist, who kindly changed our towels. We decided to hang our clothes back on the railing because it wasn't our fault they were wet. The next day, the owner came and, in a mix of Italian and Portuguese, said something to me about the laundry. I pretended not to understand (I don't have to know Italian, for example), and he said rudely, "I don't like that face. " When I explained what had happened, he sent me to a laundromat and said, "They'll wash your clothes for 2 reais" (it actually costs 50). We would have loved to go to one anyway (in fact, we went on our last day, but no one ever told us where we could go).
That same morning, the receptionist told us, "You only have until today. " Due to OUR mistake, we booked until the 20th instead of the 21st. We took responsibility for the error. It's also worth clarifying that the first day he asked us how long we were staying, we told him until the 21st, and he said OK. The receptionist, who was also very kind, offered to take us to another hotel because they didn't have a room available, but we went on our own, and it was the best decision. Two blocks away, we found a cozy guesthouse with a patio for drying clothes, plants, a fan, and air conditioning. The hosts were friendly, and it all cost 250 reais a night. In other words, there are cheaper and better options in the area.
For two or three days, they didn't change our towels, and they were all left damp where we'd left them. For example, at the second guesthouse we stayed at, there was a sign with a list of important things for guests to know, and they explained that towels were changed every four days. If only there were something like that in Kico, perhaps misunderstandings could be avoided. Guests aren't expected to know all the details of the service, and it's difficult to ask questions if there's no one at reception. That said, I must highlight the attitude of Gabriel and his brother (at reception).
